The director wanted to prove that Jack would likely be dead even if he had climbed onto the raft, by having the scene professionally re-enacted in the documentary Titanic 25 Years Later.

Could Jack and Rose have fit together on their makeshift raft?

The ending of the movie

Titanic

is probably the one that raised the most questions.

A whole generation had challenged James Cameron on the tragic end of the character of Leonardo DiCaprio.

Could it have been otherwise for this legendary cinema couple?

In a documentary entitled

Titanic

 :

25 years later

with James Cameron, broadcast on

National Geographic

on February 5, the director wanted to put an end to the debate.

And according to him, at the end of an experiment, Jack would have died even if he had climbed on the makeshift raft thanks to which Rose survived.

Two professionals have taken on the roles of the protagonists of

Titanic

.

They reproduced the whole scene which takes place just after the shipwreck of the liner.

"So we did exactly what they did in the movie, except we doubled the time for each step because our water wasn't as cold

," says James Cameron.

Fakes Rose and Jack immersed themselves in a pool of freezing water.

As in the film, the diver is forcibly pushed underwater by a man and Leonardo DiCaprio's character comes to save her.

Supported by an expert, James Cameron explains:

“The faster your heart beats, the more the cooled blood coming from your arms and your legs arrives quickly at your heart and lowers your temperature”.

This is the phenomenon of hydrocution.

"Going into water at -2 degrees Celsius takes your breath away, the heart rate accelerates, the blood vessels tighten, the blood pressure rises immediately

", underlines the expert.

“I was curious to see what was going to happen in this situation for Jack

,” reacted the director of

.

In the swimming pool, the two professionals then hoist themselves onto the makeshift raft.

It sinks into the water.

In the film, released in 1997, the wooden board remains on the surface, which keeps Rose dry and thereby saves her.

The professional who plays the role of Jack is heavier than the young woman.

Thus in the experiment Jack finds himself half in the water.

The young man is seized with violent tremors and shivers.

Kate Winslet meanwhile adheres maintains that Rose and Jack could not have survived together.

I think there was room for him, but the raft would have rolled over,”

she pointed out in December during an interview with Josh Horowitz for his

Happy Sad Confused

podcast .
