The elegant Salamanca district, the surroundings of the emblematic Retiro park and the affluent Chamberí area: these are the areas of Madrid where a large part of the residents of Italian nationality are concentrated, who now constitute the predominant foreign population in the capital .

This is what emerges from the latest municipal census, says El País in a report, which explains how Italians in the Spanish capital choose to settle mainly in the central areas, where a large part of the most valuable properties are also concentrated.

So much so that one of these areas, the one where the Italian consulate and high school are located, near the Nuevos Ministerios complex, has already been renamed by many Madrid residents as 'Little Italy'.

As underlined by El País, one fact must be taken into account: 60% of residents with a high purchasing power registered as Italian were born outside their country of origin.

In most cases, these are people from countries such as Argentina or Venezuela.

In total, according to the census, around 13,000 Italians are registered as residents in the most exclusive areas of the capital.
