New heat pump to solve the problem of cold regions - it even heats at minus 29 degrees

Heat pumps are among the particularly climate-friendly heating systems that rely on fossil fuels.

But they have one major disadvantage.

Heat pumps are considered a good alternative to conventional types of heating and make owners independent of gas or oil.

However, when it is cold, heat pumps quickly reach their limits.

"The greater the difference between the temperature of the environmental heat and the heating temperature, the more inefficiently the devices work," the portal

Efahrer.com informs

on its website.

Heat pumps are therefore not suitable for really cold regions, where temperatures are below zero in winter.

However, a new type of device could now change that.

New heat pump heats at temperatures down to minus 29 degrees

According to the specialist portal

pv-magazine.com

, the American heat pump manufacturer

Johnson Controls

is developing the prototype of an air heat pump for cold climate zones, which is suitable for temperatures down to -29 degrees Celsius.

A new refrigerant called R-454B makes this possible.

To what extent the new heat pump differs in order to work efficiently under these conditions is not yet known.

So far, the manufacturer offers two models of heat pumps that work at temperatures down to -15 degrees Celsius.

Heat pump for cold climate zones should enable secure power grid in winter

“In years to come, we will have heat pumps that maintain full heat output at -15 degrees Celsius and efficiently heat rooms down to minus temperatures,” Mark Lessans, senior director of sustainability and regulatory affairs at

Johnson Controls

, told

pv-magazine. com

.

"This level of performance will be critical to maintaining a clean, resilient power grid during peak winter periods."

Heat pumps work with electricity and are therefore dependent on a functioning power supply.

What many people don't know: Hydraulic balancing can reduce the power consumption of heat pump heating systems.

Still heating with gas?

Here, too, gas consumption can be reduced even while showering.
