The pandemic has caused the number of online music downloads to skyrocket.
The Federal Association of the Music Industry reported around 178 billion audio streams for the past year.
According to a special evaluation by GfK Entertainment, this was eight percent more than in 2021. In 2020 the value was 139 billion.
In the pre-Corona year 2019, 107 billion views were still achieved.
Since then, the number has increased by almost two-thirds.
Since recording began in 2013, a total of more than 800 billion audio streams have been counted.
Above all, current music that has been released since 2020 is heard.
These songs make up 47 percent.
Just over a third (35 percent) came from tracks from the 2010s, followed by the 2000s (8 percent), 1990s (4 percent), 1980s, and pre-1980 releases (3 percent each).
Rock lovers are more likely to buy CDs or vinyl
The most popular streaming genre is pop: with international, German-language and K-pop, which together accounted for 28 percent in 2022.
Hip-hop and rap (23 percent), rock (14 percent) and dance (13 percent) follow in further places.
In the physical market, on the other hand, rock is ahead of pop with a share of 30 percent for CDs and 52 percent for vinyl records.
Schlager songs have increased from 9 to 12 percent on CDs since 2017.
Releases in the family and classical genres are also in greater demand on CD.
Jazz and hip-hop fans turn to vinyl.
