Two cases of violence against medical staff took place this week, one in Soroka and one at the Women's Health Center in Ramla. • Against the background of the cases, the Medical Association decided that the health system will operate on a Saturday basis this coming Monday. The day the red lines are crossed"

At the end of a special discussion on the background of the violence against medical staff that was revealed in Israel Hayom: The Medical Association decided today (Thursday) to shut down the entire health system - hospitals and community clinics - this coming Monday.

"A strike is never the default for us, but the violence in the health system has long since become an epidemic and the red lines are crossed almost every day. On Monday, the doctors say enough of the violence, enough of the lawlessness," said the Chairman of the Medical Association, Prof. Zion Hagai.

The decision to shut down the health system was made at the end of a long discussion at the Medical Association's secretariat, following a second case of violence against medical staff within a few days.

"Just on Tuesday we were all shocked by the attack on the doctor at the Soroka hospital, and today we were informed of a serious attack on another doctor, this time at the women's health center in Ramla. We made it clear that yesterday's strike in Soroka was only a warning strike, but today it is clear to everyone that we have no choice but to shut down the entire system in order to "Someone in the government will wake up and put an end to this epidemic of violence. We will in no way agree to a reality in which the doctors will be neglected in the very place where they are engaged day and night in saving lives," added Prof. Hagai.

On the day of the strike, the health system will operate in a reduced Shabbat format, and the Medical Association will operate, as usual, an Exceptions Committee for special cases.

Prof. Hagai mentions that the struggle started by the Medical Association has already resulted in several important steps during the previous government, including the establishment of police points in emergency rooms and the initiation of legislation to make the punishment worse, but now the steps in the matter must be completed immediately.

According to him, the recent cases have proven that police points in emergency rooms are not enough, and that the security systems in all health institutions must be significantly strengthened.
