Riccardo Barbieri Hermitte,
chosen by the Ministry of the Economy to take Alessandro Rivera's place at the general directorate of the Treasury, was born in Rome on 25 April 1958 and is already at the Mef as head of the Economic and Financial Analysis Department of the Treasury Department.
He is an economist and market strategist with twenty-five years of experience in the financial markets,
where he worked for some of the major investment banks, such as JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley and Bank of America-Merrill Lynch.
He was the head of the Independent Research Department and Chief Economist at Mizuho International, the London branch of the Japanese investment bank Mizuho Securities.
Raised in Milan, where he graduated with honors in Economics and Social Sciences from Bocconi, he spent five years in the US, earning a Ph.D. in Economics from New York University.
