Previously, holders of a category B driving license were allowed to drive motor vehicles with a total mass of up to 3.5 tons.
According to the EU Commission, the central change should be that this value will be increased to 4.25 tons.
This should apply across Europe.
The schedule provides for the vote in the EU Parliament to take place by the end of March.

Driving License Directive”, as the project is known in technical jargon, passed the EU Council and the EU Parliament.
The individual member states of the European Union are then asked to implement the new regulations for motorists.

The change in total mass for category B driving licenses could affect campers in particular.
"The category B driver's license only covers motor vehicles up to a permissible total mass of 3.5 tons.
Most mobile homes are therefore not allowed to be driven by car drivers' license holders - they are too heavy.
The planned increase in the permissible total weight to 4.25 tons could remedy this," says the ADAC.

Driver's License Directive" are also to be adapted to numerous regulations in EU countries.
