No backtracking on wiretapping reform.

The controversies, rekindled by the centrality of the conversations captured in the capture of Matteo Messina Denaro after 30 years on the run, do not seem to affect the determination of the Minister of Justice

"We will go ahead to the end, we will not waver and we will not hesitate. The Copernican revolution on the abuse of wiretapping is a cornerstone of our program" he underlined in the Senate Hall, reiterating that there will "never" be interventions to limit the use of this tool in the investigation of mafia and terrorism.

Nordio is at Palazzo Madama to present the report on the state of justice in view of the imminent inauguration of the judicial year.

And his is a response to the criticisms that have reached him from the benches of the opposition.

Not all, however: words of appreciation come from Action and Italia Viva, which at the end of the debate on the minister's report collect the approval of their motion together with that of the majority.

It is current events that take the upper hand in the presentation of the Keeper of the Seals, who opens his report by expressing "joy" for the capture of Messina Denaro, "an operation whose merit is equally divided between the judiciary and the forces of order, between this and previous governments".

He assures that the action of the government and of the parliament against the mafia will be "strong, lasting, homogeneous and unconditional" and highlights the positive impact that the fight against clans can have on our economy, today burdened by an "extremely pernicious".

But the appointment to the Senate is also an opportunity for the minister to return to statements that have attracted criticism, especially after the boss's capture.

"When I say that mafiosi don't speak on the phone, I mean the fact that none of them has expressed a desire to commit a crime on the phone or expressed a word that is proof of a crime", he clarifies, reiterating that the tappings are mainly used to identify "the movements of people suspected of mafia and terrorism".

But if interceptions are indispensable in this field, as are preventive ones, "judicial interceptions are another thing, involving people who are neither defendants nor suspects and who, through a perverse and controlled mechanism, end up in the newspapers and offend citizens who are not involved in the slightest in the investigation".

It is on this terrain that the government intends to go all the way, the minister assures, explaining among other things that the possibility of manipulating the intercepted conversations has always existed, it was not born with the trojan.

Pd and M5s reject Nordio's program, which among other things provides for the reform of abuse of office, defined in the "imminent" report.
