"It is normal that there are colleagues who, having always acted as anti-mafia prosecutors, have an extremely strict view of these problems. But Italy is not made up of prosecutors and this parliament must not be supine and compliant with the prosecutors' positions ". (HANDLE)

(ANSA) - ROME, JAN 19 - "It is normal that there are colleagues who, having always been anti-mafia prosecutors, have an extremely strict view of these problems. But Italy is not made up of prosecutors and this parliament must not be supine and compliant with those who are the positions of the prosecutors".

This was stated by the Minister of Justice, Carlo Nordio, in the Chamber in reference to the controversy over the limitation of wiretapping.

Words that were greeted by a long applause from the majority.

The Minister of Justice, during his speech, also underlined that he "never intended to touch the wiretaps concerning terrorism and the mafia and those crimes are satellites in relation to these pernicious phenomena".

"When we speak of justice, we must also speak of judicial errors", also said the justice minister, referring to the case of the former commander of the ROS, General Mario Mori "whose career was ruined without anyone having compensated for the damage", he continued .

From the opposition benches, however, these declarations were met with buzz.

The Minister of Justice then highlighted that "if we are dealing with a mafia that has infiltrated everywhere" this means that "in the last 30 years the fight against the mafia has failed".

Nordio - who said he does not believe this - thus replied to what was said by the former national anti-mafia prosecutor, Federico Cafiero De Raho, to whom he contests having a "pan-mafia" vision.
