CASERTA - Dozens of events, from conferences to study days, from guided tours to the involvement of schools, to remember and celebrate 250 years after the death of the first real "archistar" in history, Luigi Vanvitelli, builder of the Royal Palace of Caserta and many other monuments, inspirer of a style which was later taken up all over Europe, from Buckingham Palace to London or Vienna as in many ancient Russian palaces.

And there will also be gold and silver coins dedicated to the event issued by the State Mint and a special volume dedicated to the Royal Palace of Caserta for the "Palazzi d'Italia" series by Treccani.

"An absolute giant" defines Vanvitelli the Minister of Culture Gennaro Sangiuliano,

came to the Bourbon Palace to present the calendar of events - not yet fully defined - which will officially open on March 1st (the architect died on March 1st 1773) and will involve all those monuments and territories in which Vanvitelli worked, leaving his indelible imprint.

"The Reggia must be the cultural and economic epicenter of the territory - adds Sangiuliano -. The heritage must be preserved and the quality of services must be raised. In a territory like this, focusing on culture can become a really important fact. There are important works at the Reggia in progress, I will be close by to follow the whole project and ensure that it can have a rapid completion".

To use the term "archistar" for Vanvitelli is the director of the Reggia Tiziana Maffei, also an architect, who recalls how the Caserta Royal Palace is "Vanvitelli's most important work, which however has left evident and prestigious traces in other regions such as Umbria, the Marches, Lazio".

But it is in Caserta that he left the most important traces, both professional and human.

"Vanvitelli was not only the extraordinary creator of the Reggia and the Carolino Aqueduct, which together with the Belvedere of San Leucio make up our Unesco site - says the mayor Carlo Marino - but an excellent protagonist of the city of Caserta, where he chose to live and to found a school of architects with his son and other pupils".

The initiatives start on March 1st with a

extraordinary evening opening of the Royal Palace of Caserta, but already from 28 February the Federico II University will organize the "International Study Days of the History of Architecture Luigi Vanvitelli: language and technique".

The Municipality of Caserta will present the show "Astronomy at the time of Vanvitelli" at the Planetarium of Caserta and "Vanvitelli at the bishop's court", and there will be the extraordinary opening and guided tours of the ancient bishop's palace in Falciano di Caserta.

The Municipality plans to create an artists' residence aimed at the production of works of art inspired by Vanvitelli's places and the Maestro's legacy.

The Vanvitelli University will then hold a series of lectures and seminars, while the Parthenope University has activated for the

academic year 2022-23 the training course "The Carolino Aqueduct, history, architecture, engineering and environment", and is planning a Summer School on economics and engineering.

Finally, the international study conference "Luigi Vanvitelli, the master and his legacy 1773-2023" will be held at the Mole Vanvitelliana in Ancona, home to the Omero State Museum.
