Iss, 100% Omicron in Italy, 12 cases of Kraken

Covid incidence drops to 88 and Rt from 0.91 to 0.89, according to weekly monitoring. Ministry data, -38.3% cases in 7 days (ANSA)


In Italy on 10 January the Omicron variant had an estimated prevalence of 100%,

with the subvariant BA.5 largely predominant and a share of omicron/omicron recombinants equal to 3.6%.

These are the results of the rapid survey conducted by the ISS and the Ministry of Health together with the regional laboratories and the Bruno Kessler Foundation.

There are 12 cases of Kraken detected.

As in other European countries, the sequencing of the CH.1.1 sub-lineage known as Orthrus is increasing in the United Kingdom (2.6% compared to 1.0% in the previous survey of 13 December), "whose characteristics are being investigated".

The incidence of Covid cases and the transmissibility index are still decreasing

The former goes to 88 per 100,000 inhabitants (13/01/2023 -19/01/2023) compared to 143 per 100,000 inhabitants (06/01/2023 -12/01/2023).

In the period 28 December 2022-10 January 2023, the average Rt calculated on symptomatic cases was 0.89 (range 0.74-1.06), a decrease compared to the previous week when it was 0.91 and below the epidemic threshold.

This is indicated by the weekly ISS-Ministry of Health monitoring.

The employment rate in intensive care by Covid patients is down to 2.3%

(daily survey by the Ministry of Health as of 19 January) compared to 3.1% (daily survey by the Ministry of Health as of 12 January).

The employment rate in medical areas at a national level drops to 7.9%

(daily survey by the Ministry of Health on 19 January) compared to 10.1% (daily survey by the Ministry of Health on 12 January). 

No region and autonomous province is classified as high risk due to the evolution of Covid cases and the impact on health facilities.

There are 4 moderate risk ones and they are, according to the form that ANSA was able to view, Emilia Romagna, Piedmont, Bolzano and Puglia

.

Finally seventeen classified as low risk.

In the week 13-19 January 2023 there were 51,897 new positive cases of Covid with a variation of -38.3% compared to the previous week (when they were 84,076);

495 the deceased with a variation of -14.1% compared to the previous week (there were 576).

There were 687,233 swabs with a variation of -10.5% compared to the previous week (there were 767,718) The positivity rate of 7.6% with a variation of -3.4% compared to the previous week (11.0%) .
