Kim Kardashian, American celebrity from the world of reality shows, was awarded today for an exorbitant amount compared to initial estimates - over 160,000 pounds - a historic jewel auctioned by Sotheby's in London, the Atllah Cross, famous for being once worn by the late Princess Diana.
It is a cross pendant necklace encrusted with amethysts and framed with 5.2 carat diamonds.
Designed by Garrard in the 1920s, it was worn around Lady D's neck in more than one circumstance: among other things, at a gala organized under all the spotlights in London in October 1987 to raise funds for an association humanitarian organization committed to protecting women from the risks associated with pregnancy and childbirth.
But it was never owned by the late mother of Princes William and Harry, to whom it was loaned several times by his billionaire friend Naim Attallah, a Palestinian businessman naturalized British who had bought it in the early 1980s.
Now up for sale by Atallah's heirs, the jewel had been quoted by the auction house at between £80,000 and £120,000.
However, Kim Kardashian, through her representatives, did it in the end for 163,800 pounds, equal to about 187,000 euros at today's exchange rate.
