Against inflation "we will do what is necessary" and the ECB will "maintain the course" of monetary policy.
ECB President Christine Lagarde reiterated this during a panel at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
"China is waking up and will buy more liquefied natural gas, in a market that doesn't have much spare oil and gas capacity. There will be more inflationary pressures."
Thus Lagarde who said he hoped that the budgetary policies that will be adopted by governments, after a 2022 in which support for the economy has increased, "do not push monetary policy to have to do more" to contain the race in prices.
The prospects for the world economy "have improved" but "we must be cautious".
In particular, "we don't quite know how inflation will evolve" and "if budgetary policy works against monetary policy, you, Christine Lagarde, will have to raise rates even more".
This was stated by the president of the International Monetary Fund, Kristalina Georgieva, in Davos.
