The City of Buenos Aires, La Plata and localities in the east and south of Buenos Aires are under yellow alert, while the central and western departments of the province are under orange alert.
After 4:30 p.m., the first drops began to fall, anticipating the storm that finally broke out a few minutes later.
Already at 17.15 the sky unloaded its fury on the Federal Capital.
Meanwhile, the Municipality of La Plata raised the Risk Attention Level to "yellow" due to storms of varying intensity, some with gusts of wind and occasional hail.
The local Hydrometeorology Directorate anticipated that from this afternoon until early Saturday morning "there are probabilities of storms of varying intensity, some with gusts and the occasional fall of hail."
In this context, the Commune initiated an action plan that has the articulated work of the different municipal areas and contemplates monitoring and control tasks to prevent inconveniences.
In the same way, various preventive actions are advancing on public roads with the survey of objects external to homes that can be blown up and tree branches with a risk of falling.
In addition, prevention tasks were carried out in drains and storm drains in different neighborhoods of La Plata.
The agency indicated that in the localities where the orange alert is in effect, accumulated precipitation values between 30 and 60 millimeters are expected, which can be exceeded "in a localized way."
Alert for the Atlantic Coast
The SMN also issued
a yellow alert for storms for this afternoon for the area comprised by Mar Chiquita, Mar del Plata and Miramar
, some locally strong that will be accompanied by intense gusts of wind, occasional hail, strong electrical activity and abundant water fall in short periods.
The drop of between 20 and 45 mm is expected in these areas of the coast, but these marks can be exceeded in a timely manner.
From the Municipality of General Pueyrredón it was indicated that in the event of any difficulty "neighbors and tourists can contact 103 (Civil Defense), 107 (SAME), 911 (Police) or 100 (Firefighters) by telephone."
Another orange alert applies to the east of the provinces of Chubut and Río Negro, which expect heavy rains this afternoon and night.
According to the daily report of the SMN, a large part of Córdoba is under yellow alert, while in some towns in the eastern province, storms of greater intensity are expected.
The orange alert also applies to the north of La Pampa and south of Santa Fe, while in other departments of both provinces there is a yellow alert for storms.
Meanwhile, in the provinces of Entre Ríos, San Luis and La Rioja -under a yellow warning- an accumulated precipitation between 20 and 45 millimeters is expected, the agency said.
The storms in these towns in the center and south of the country "may be accompanied by intense gusts, occasional hail, strong electrical activity and abundant rainfall in short periods."
Likewise, the SMN recommended for the affected areas not to take out the garbage or objects that prevent water from draining, avoid outdoor activities, not take refuge near trees and electricity poles that could fall, and not stay on beaches, rivers, lagoons or pools.
