In the North-West, in Tuscany and in Sardinia, clear skies are expected, clear skies which, however, have favored lows below zero, especially between Lombardy and Piedmont.

Between Sunday evening and the early hours of Monday, beware of copious snowfalls in southern Campania, western Basilicata and northern Calabria.

In these areas the snow could accumulate up to 40 cm above 300 meters in the worst case scenario.

Expected temperatures in the plains in the North on average between -4°C at night and +3°C during the day, in the center from 0°C to 5°C, in the South from 3°C to 9°C, while in the mountains we will have -15°C at 1500 meters and about -25°C at 3000 meters: note the -20°C expected in the Livigno area, the -8°C expected in Aosta and Cuneo and also the -4°C in Milan, with perceived temperatures reaching -50°C on the highest peaks of the Alps due to the wind.

Rescue for 8 cars blocked by snow in Abruzzo

An emergency intervention by the carabinieri of Pescasseroli (L'Aquila) was necessary during the night in favor of 23 motorists, who were stranded in the Forca d'Acero pass, on the border between Abruzzo and Lazio, due to heavy snowfalls.

Reports and requests for help had been recorded by the military since late yesterday evening.

Around dinner time the switchboard of the Prefecture of L'Aquila was also alerted and the requests were concentrated precisely in the area of the Forca d'Acero pass.

A team of rescuers, made up of lieutenant Domenico Palmieri, commander of the Pescasseroli station (L'Aquila), the police officer Franco Lemma (carabinieri station "Parco"), together with Pietro Nardelli, employee of the Pescasseroli station,

she left for the crossing aboard an Isuzu pick-up.

Starting from the Opi crossroads, at the crossroads between the SS83 Marsicana and the Sr 509, the ascent of the mountain pass began with the aim of reaching the most treacherous stretch as soon as possible in search of the cars stuck in the snow.

Arriving at Forca d'Acero, the carabinieri identified eight vehicles stationary on the road and unable to move due to snowdrifts up to 1.5 meters high.

Having ascertained the good health of the occupants of the vehicles - 23 people in all, including two infants and three minors - the rescue group with the help of the snow plow managed to open a gap large enough to guarantee the maneuverability of the vehicles,

who were then escorted to the Opi crossroads in safety conditions.

The operations, concluded only late at night, were coordinated remotely in close collaboration by the on-call manager of the Prefecture, the deputy prefect added Giuseppe Girolami and by the Operations Center of the Castel di Sangro Company directed by Commander Fabio Castagna.
