(ANSA) - LIMA, JAN 21 - Serious incidents between protesters and police in Llave, in the southern Peruvian region of Puno, yesterday resulted in the death of one person and the injury of seven others, bringing to 54 the number of people who died in the anti-government protests that began on December 7 2022.


    These incidents, reports RPP radio today, occurred while for the second consecutive day thousands of people participated yesterday in the so-called 'Take of Lima' through which political, social, trade union and student movements are demanding the dissolution of Parliament, the resignation of President Dina Boluarte , immediate elections and the release from prison of former president Pedro Castillo.


    Yesterday evening the Minister of the Interior, Vicente Romero, announced that 22 members of the national police and 16 civilians were injured on the second day of clashes in the capital. The minister also reported that material damage was caused to the airports of Cusco, Puno and Arequipa " vandalize them, but get away from the police".


    Finally, the Peruvian broadcaster published online a summary of the fatal victims divided by region, specifying that the one with the highest number of deaths, directly or indirectly due to the protests, is Puno (23), followed by Ayacucho (10), Apurímac (6), La Libertad (6), Cusco (4), Junín and Arequipa (3, each).
