(ANSA) - SAO PAULO, JAN 22 - The Minister of Justice and Public Security, Flavio Dino (Psb), has ordered the opening of an investigation into alleged crimes of genocide and environmental crimes in the region of the Yanomami people, in the state of Roraima.
Yesterday, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva went to Roraima to address the emergency of the indigenous population affected by a very serious health, food and environmental crisis caused largely by the invasion of the garimpeiros, the illegal miners and gold seekers, favored by the political initiatives of the Bolsonaro government.
Lula, who signed a decree setting up a national coordination committee that will have 90 days to discuss actions in support of the Yanomami, was accompanied by Dino, and the minister for indigenous peoples Sonia Guajajara.
The Ministry of Health had declared a public health emergency of national importance on Friday.
