(ANSA) - ROME, JAN 22 - Germany could eventually transfer 19 Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine, which Kiev is insistently asking for.
The German weekly Der Spiegel writes it, even if there are no official confirmations on the matter. The newspaper reports that the German army has 212 operational Leopards of various models.
About a hundred more tanks are under repair.
According to Spiegel, the German Defense Ministry believes that 19 Leopard 2A5 tanks are the most suitable for sending to Ukraine.
They are currently used as training equipment and if they were not given to Kiev they would be destined for disposal.
Spiegel clarifies that Ukraine could also receive Leopard from other countries, such as Poland, if the Germans approve the delivery.
