The President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, granted a "partial" pardon to Crocifisso Martina, a former security guard from Torchiarolo (Brindisi), currently detained in the Matera prison where he is serving a definitive sentence of 14 years in prison for the murder of Marco Tedesco, which took place on the night of January 23, 2007 during an attempted robbery.
Mattarella's intervention, which came after the pardon request sent to Colle by his daughter Martina, will allow the man to serve six years less of his sentence and therefore to leave prison no longer in 2036, but, also thanks to some discounts penalty, in 2026.
Martina had been sentenced by the judges of the Court of Assizes of Lecce to 14 years' imprisonment in December 2013. The former security guard had surprised Marco Tedesco, 28 years old at the time, that night in January 2007 while, together with three accomplices, he was carrying out a robbery in the Q8 fuel station on the highway between Lecce and Brindisi.
Initially Martina had been accused of manslaughter and excess of defense but then the monocratic judge of Campi Salento, Stefano Sernia, had sent the documents back to the prosecutor's office to reformulate the accusation into voluntary homicide.
Martina has always maintained that she fired because the criminals were armed, even if their weapon was never found.
That evening he intervened together with a second security guard who was acquitted of the charges.
