PRATO - After a long 'tour' the Madonna and Child between two angels by Donatello returns home, one of the masterpieces of the permanent collection of Palazzo Pretorio in Prato.
The terracotta tabernacle, built between 1415 and 1420, an early work by Donatello, which already contains some stylistic aspects that will make the sculptor one of the greatest artists of the Renaissance, was in fact on loan from 19 March to 31 July 2022 at Palazzo Strozzi for the exhibition 'Donatello, the Renaissance';
subsequently, it flew directly to Berlin, to the Staatlichen Museen, to be exhibited in the Gemäldegalerie on the occasion of the 'Donatello.
Erfinder der Renaissance', which began last September 2nd and finished on January 8th.
The masterpiece can now be admired again on the first floor of the Prato museum.
But not only with the eyes: a tactile replica of the Madonna and child between two angels was in fact also made, thanks to the contribution of the Staatlichen Museen of Berlin, which is available to visitors to the Prato museum: they can touch it freely while admiring Donatello's mastery and fully grasping all the details of the work.
Even visually impaired visitors, guided by the staff of the Palazzo Pretorio Museum, will be able to directly experience spatial concepts such as the point of view, proportions, details and overall perception of Donatello's work through touch.
