The alleged shooter of Monterey Park is dead. As the police in Los Angeles announced on Sunday (local time), emergency services found the man lifeless in a white van.

The 72-year-old shot himself.

The man is suspected of opening fire at a club in Monterey Park on Saturday night.

At the time, a Chinese New Year celebration was taking place in the eastern suburbs of the Pacific metropolis of Los Angeles.

At least ten people died in the attack.

Other people were injured.

After the crime, the police searched for hours for the shooter.

The search was for a man of Asian descent.

The motive for the act is unclear, Sheriff Robert Luna had said, it was being investigated in all directions.

Even after the body was found in the town of Torrance, Luna said the motive was still unclear.

There are no other suspects.

The fatalities are five women and five men.

Ten other people were taken to hospitals with injuries, some of them life-threatening.

Monterey Park is a city of approximately 60,000 people located approximately 8 miles from downtown Los Angeles.

Many people of Asian origin live there.

A big festival had been held in the city to mark the Chinese New Year.

According to the police, the perpetrator opened fire in the club on Saturday evening at 10:22 p.m. (local time).

"When officers arrived at the scene, they saw numerous people, patrons of the venue, erupting screaming from the premises," said Andrew Meyer of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office.

The owner of a restaurant near the crime scene told the Los Angeles Times that three people ran into his restaurant and asked him to lock the door.

They said the shooter carried so much ammunition that he could reload over and over again.

US President Joe Biden wrote on Twitter that he and his wife Jill would pray for the dead and injured in the deadly shooting.
