In 2022, the railway and transport union (EVG) registered more than 2,300 attacks on Deutsche Bahn employees.
"In 2022, there were 2,325 attacks on DB employees in the first to third quarters, and there were 2,582 attacks in the overall view of 2021," said an EVG spokeswoman for the editorial network Germany (RND).
“It can therefore be assumed that the total number of attacks from 2022, including the fourth quarter that is not yet available, will significantly exceed the number from 2021.”
Train attendants repeatedly report violent attacks.
During the Corona period, those who refused to wear masks often sparked arguments on the train.
But it is not only since then that the railway staff have regularly gotten into precarious situations.
Demand for more police on trains
EVG boss Martin Burkert called for more police presence on long-distance trains.
“We basically need federal police on board every long-distance train.
That is why the positions of the federal police have to be increased,” he told the RND.
»Regular rides by DB Sicherheit are required for local transport.
The employer has to take care of that and the customer in the federal states has to bear the costs.«
The police union (GdP) insisted on a security strategy.
»We have to draw conclusions from the number of attacks on railway workers.
Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser must launch a train station strategy and an investment package to strengthen the federal police force," GdP boss Jochen Kopelke told RND.
