Partially defatted flour from Acheta domesticus (house cricket) will be available for sale in the EU from tomorrow.
On the 26th there will then be the entry into force of the regulation authorizing the marketing of frozen, paste, dried and powdered larvae of Alphitobius diaperinus (minor mealworm).
Before the partially defatted flour, the EU ok for powdered crickets, and for frozen, paste and dried crickets had already arrived in March 2022. The migratory locust, from the end of 2021, and the larva are already marketed in the same forms flour yellow (larva of Tenebrio molitor, or miller tenebrione) from March 2022.
The first insect to be given the green light as a new food by the EU member states on a proposal from the European Commission was the larva of the miller tendril, but only in dried form, in June 2021.
