The decree law extending the government's authorization to send weapons to Ukraine for the whole of 2023
should receive the definitive go-ahead from Montecitorio by Thursday
, a measure already approved by the Senate and the discussion of which started this week's work in the
Chamber
.
It is a passage that should confirm what happened at
Palazzo Madama
and in the Commission, namely the unity of the majority on the yes to the provision, even if the League raises doubts on the effectiveness of the sanctions against
Russia
.
There is a new differentiation in the oppositions:
Pd and Third Pole
are in support of military support for Kiev, while
M5s and Avs
they are against sending weapons, among which - Minister Antonio Tajani confirmed - there should be the new surface-to-air missiles of Franco-Italian construction.
M5s and Nicola Fratoianni
presented two amendments, rejected in the Commissions, which asked for Parliament's authorization for each shipment of weapons.
A heated dialectic is registered in the center-right but does not translate into a division in the vote: the League disputes the effectiveness of the sanctions against Russia through the words of
Simone Billi
in Montecitorio and
Massimiliano Romeo
in the Senate.
The problem is in the opposition field.
In the face of the convinced yes of the two candidates for the secretariat of the Democratic Party
Stefano Bonaccini and Elly Schlein
to military support for Kiev, a new "no" from
Giuseppe Conte
is opposed who, however, like in the Senate, should not obstruct.
In an interview with Corriere della Sera,
Minister Tajani
explained that the "sixth package" should
include the Italian-French-made Samp-T surface-to-air missiles,
essential for Ukraine's air defense to shoot down Russian missiles and drones supplied by Iran but also "other actions we work on confidentially".
Italy "supports every possible path to arrive at a just peace, which means the independence and territorial integrity of
Ukraine
", he underlined, noting that if it is true that "the conflict must end as soon as possible, then for the Allied countries of Ukraine it must be clear that we must do everything possible to help this nation in its struggle for independence".
