For several days now the question of
interceptions
has been at the center of the debate.
While on the one hand
Giorgia Meloni
reaffirms her confidence in Minister
Nordio
, despite the majority appearing divided on the issue, on the other hand people seem to fear that this investigative tool could be weakened and journalists are concerned about the implications on the issue of press freedom .
Fears fueled by some statements (among others by the
Undersecretary of State for Justice

Delmastro , according to which measures concerning the publication of wiretaps in newspapers are being studied), to which
Raffaele
Lorusso
promptly replied ,
general secretary of Fnsi
(the union of journalists) for whom 'the temptation to gag journalists is a temptation that returns cyclically'.

have analyzed the online conversations of Italians on the subject.
The online interventions (social media + online news + blogs and forums) of the last thirty days in relation to the keyword
'interceptions'
were monitored .
From 24 December 2022 to 22 January 2023, a total of more than
62,000 citations
on the subject by over
8,000 unique authors
, whose contents involved (with likes + reactions + comments and shares) over
317,000 subjects
.
The maximum peak was recorded on January 21, when in a single day there were more than 10,000 citations on the issue.
Fundamentally two strands of discussion emerge from the analysis.
The first is linked to the interceptions on
Juventus' capital gains
which led to the heavy penalization of the football team.
The second is instead directly linked to the proposals of the
Minister of Justice, Carlo Nordio
.
In both cases there is a strongly negative connotation as regards the sentiment, the share of emotions and, precisely, negative feelings contained in the online verbalizations expressed by people.
As the word cloud for sentiment (red = negative) shows, the word cloud with the terms most used online
, 'wiretapping is essential'

'news reporting'
are some of the topics on which concentrate the negativity.
The content that has generated the greatest involvement is a post by the
leader of the M5S

Giuseppe Conte,
who with an edited video shows what for him are the contradictions of
Nordio
in the statements made in the last month, combining them with the statements of
the chief prosecutor of Palermo
. who, speaking of the arrest of
Matteo Messina Denaro,
defines wiretapping as indispensable and indispensable in the fight against the mafia.
The number of people who spoke online therefore seems decidedly opposed to limiting the use of interceptions and also their publication.
In this context, the
Prime Minister
and
Minister Nordio
, in whom Meloni reaffirmed his utmost confidence, will meet to define the time schedule of the initiatives necessary to improve the state of Italian justice.
