Filippo Tortu will make his seasonal debut next Sunday, in Stockholm, at the Folksam GP, in a specialty he hasn't practiced for three years, the 60m indoors.
The last time was at the Absolute 2020, when he won the Italian title with a time of 6''60.
"We decided to break up the pace of training with a first race - the words of the Olympic champion of the 4x100, who has just returned from the meeting in Tenerife -. We haven't worked specifically on the short distance but I think it's important, after many months, to test the sensations in the race and take stock of how preparation is going. Then we'll evaluate whether to do more indoors or focus immediately on the outdoor season".
The sprinter from Brianza is therefore ready to start again for the new season, in which he wants to do well especially at the World Cup in Hungary and try to relaunch the relay, which was left dry last year and is looking for a pass for the world championship.
In the 60m his personal best dates back to January 2019 (6''58 in Ancona) and in Stockholm he could run twice, in the heat and in the final, challenging an entirely European parterre of opponents, including the Swede Henrik Larsson but also the Finnish Samuli Samuelsson and Serbian Aleksa Kijanovic.
