Unanimous green light from the Chamber to the bill for the establishment of a parliamentary commission of inquiry into feminicide, as well as all forms of gender-based violence.
The text, approved in Montecitorio with 258 votes in favor and none against, will have to return to the Senate: it has in fact undergone changes in the commission in Montecitorio.
The commission, made up of eighteen senators and eighteen deputies, carries out investigations on the real dimensions and causes of feminicide and, more generally, of all forms of gender-based violence;
monitors the concrete implementation of the Istanbul Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence, as well as any other supranational and international agreement on the subject and national legislation inspired by the same principles, with particular dl which introduced the so-called "red code".
The commission then ascertains the possible inconsistencies and shortcomings of the legislation in force on the subject with respect to the aim of protecting the victim of violence and any minors involved, for the purpose of its possible revision (with specific reference to the penal legislation concerning sexual harassment perpetrated in places of work), as well as to continue the analysis of the episodes of feminicide, which have occurred since 2016, to ascertain whether recurring conditions or behaviors can be found, which can be evaluated on a statistical level, in order to guide the prevention action;
ascertains the level of attention and the capacity to intervene of the authorities and public administrations competent to carry out prevention and assistance activities;
check, as recommended by WHO,
the implementation of educational projects in schools;
proposes legislative and administrative solutions to achieve adequate prevention and contrast to all forms of gender-based violence as well as to protect the victim of violence and any minors involved;
it also evaluates the need to draw up consolidated texts, in order to implement the coherence and completeness of the regulation on violence against women;
monitors the work carried out by the anti-violence centers operating in the area, including rehabilitation centers for abusive men, and the effective application by the Regions of the anti-violence plan and of the national guidelines for healthcare companies.
