In cold, wet weather, the risk of mold increases in rooms that are not so well heated.
A hygrometer makes it easier to check the indoor climate.
In cold, wet weather, mold can form in cooler rooms.
In combination with the cooler temperatures, this is mainly due to the humidity in the room.
The ideal humidity is around 40 to 50 percent - if it is permanently high, the risk of mold increases.
Regularly ventilate the apartment to prevent mold growth
It is all the more important, for example, to regularly air out.
According to experts, you should open the windows at home about two to four times a day, preferably for up to ten minutes.
In frosty temperatures, however, it can be a little shorter: Because: "When it's cold outside, the air exchange with the warm room air takes place faster because the pressure difference is greater and cold air contains less moisture," explains Wolfgang Lorenz, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Federal Association for Mold Remediation, in a report by the German Press Agency.
According to consumer advocates, it is even enough to ventilate for just three to five minutes in winter when outside temperatures are low or it is windy, the report says.
So it stays warm enough inside.

Hygrometer measures relative humidity in the home
You can easily check the humidity in your home with a hygrometer.
Such a measuring device is already available in stores for a few euros.
It shows the relative humidity in the room.
But what are the ideal values for temperature and humidity?
Here you have to distinguish between the different rooms in the apartment, as the
Stuttgarter Nachrichten
describes in an online report.
The following conditions are therefore considered to be the optimum room climate.

Room climate: Do not dry laundry in cool rooms
In order to prevent mold, make sure that the room climate is optimal.
And avoid common mistakes like when hanging up the laundry in the apartment: the drying rack has no place in cooler rooms.
If condensation forms on the window pane, wipe it off with a cloth to prevent mold from forming on the seals over time.
In poorly ventilated bathrooms without windows, it is also better to dry the tiles and joints so that no bacteria and fungi collect in damp corners.
