A dog's love for her puppy brings tears to her eyes.
Despite being heartlessly abandoned, she does everything she can to protect the little one.
But rescue is near and she can finally breathe a sigh of relief.
When the couple Jen and Roman McConn found out about a helpless mother dog and her puppy via Facebook, who were apparently abandoned on the street, they set off immediately.
Both run a small animal welfare organization called Project Freedom Ride and take care of helpless animals.
Abandoned dog mom protects puppies from the cold - and finds comfort in a hug
As the McConns approached the small family, they weren't quite sure how the dogs would react to them.
Some four-legged friends are very insecure and run away.
But this bitch was probably at the end of her strength and reacted extremely grateful to the human help.
"It was amazing," Jen McConn tells
The Dodo
.
"It was like she knew right away that they were safe now."

Abandoned dog mother protects puppies from the cold - and finds shelter with a foster family
Mina and Milo are placed with a foster family.
There, the two are fed and lovingly cared for by Heather Foster and her son.
Milo receives special baths to treat his skin disease and the dog Mina also gets an extra portion of care.
"They weren't all that excited about the baths, but I think they knew this was the beginning of a better life," McConn says.
Only a short time later, both really blossom.

They played and wagged their tails.
It was great.
I think Mina finally felt like she could relax and not have to protect Milo anymore." The two will probably stay with the foster family until March.
A new forever home will then be sought.
