(ANSA) - ROME, JAN 25 - "We didn't want to devastate the CGIL but we wanted to hold a peaceful demonstration. I remember saying: 'oh, we don't commit crimes'".
This is what Roberto Fiore, historic leader of Forza Nuova, said today in the trial in which he is accused together with others for the assault on the CGIL which took place on October 9, 2021 in Rome on the sidelines of a demonstration called to protest against the Green Pass.
Against him the prosecutor disputes the crimes of instigation to commit a crime and devastation.
"My interest was that there was a political demonstration - Fiore said before the judges of the first section of the collegiate court of the Capital - and that there were no accidents. After 50 years of political activity, one cannot think that I am crazy enough to conclude a great political demonstration with the assault on a union".
Recounting his version of what happened that day, the defendant stated that "there was total agreement with the forces of order, the procession was peaceful until we arrived in the piazzaleBrasile area. There two armored vehicles stop and block the procession: the story is dramatized when a vehicle runs over one of the demonstrators. This triggered an initial reaction from the many people present. Then we arrive in front of the union headquarters where we wanted to have a sit-in.
Someone, not a protester, at a certain point opens the door and I understand that the situation is getting worse and I decide to do my best to get the people who had entered to leave.
There were no Forza Nuova militants inside, I saw ladies with bags". (ANSA).
