Grandparents in 40% of families save budgets from inflation

In four out of ten Italian families (40%) it is the grandparents who save the domestic budget, which is at risk from inflation which hits the shopping cart with the explosion in energy costs due to the war in Ukraine.

This is what emerges from an online survey by Coldiretti, disclosed on the occasion of the assembly of Seniors of Coldiretti.

Among Italians who benefit from the presence of a pensioner at home, 63% declare that

, while 22% see them as a valid help in looking after their children, saving on after-school and babysitter.

Finally, 15% find help at work level especially for those who have a business, from agriculture to crafts, to trade, benefiting from the experience accumulated by those who are retired.

As in the best agricultural tradition, Coldiretti recalls, the presence of the elderly is almost always considered an added value within a family welfare system which has to deal with the management of the available economic resources, but also with the time for the children in situations where both parents are often away from home for work.

"Wrongly considered for years as an archaic form to be overcome, the presence of the elderly within the family is proving to be fundamental for many citizens" says the president of Coldiretti, Ettore Prandini, underlining that "solidarity between generations is a model winning to live and feel good together and not a sign of social and cultural backwardness as has often been claimed".
