It's over for almost 50 smartphone models: Whatsapp no longer provides support.
That means no updates and potential security vulnerabilities.
A list of affected phones.
Without WhatsApp?
Most smartphone users can no longer imagine that.
The messenger service has millions of followers and keeps coming out with innovations that make using the app more convenient.
No more Whatsapp – the messenger on these smartphones may soon fail completely
For example, the messenger giant is currently testing a feature that should make it easier to block contacts.
The innovation should appear with an update.
New emojis are also in the starting blocks.
And: Secretly leaving Whatsapp groups is possible with a trick.
But: everything doesn't work if it's almost over.
Because: If you are lagging behind technically, you will probably soon find yourself without Whatsapp.
Operator Meta has already discontinued support for many smartphone models on January 1st.
What does that mean?
“Whatsapp is ending support for Android devices running versions prior to Android 5.0 released in 2014.
iPhones also lose Whatsapp support if they are only equipped with iOS 10 released in 2016 or iOS 11 released in 2017,” writes “golem.de”
No more support for Whatsapp: no more updates, security gaps possible
In plain language: Since January 1, 2023, these devices will no longer receive updates and security gaps will no longer be fixed.
Well, now one or the other may think: It doesn't matter, I'll just use the old version and nothing will happen in terms of security.
But: With outdated devices, it will no longer be possible to create a new account or to verify an existing account.
There will be no WhatsApp support for these devices from January 1, 2023

At some point it will happen: Whatsapp will no longer work on these devices.
But why actually?
With updates come new features.
And as is well known, Whatsapp is not stingy with that.
And if the hardware can't keep up, that's it.
