The use of psychotropic drugs for 'recreational' purposes is booming among adolescents, a new phenomenon of addiction that is constantly growing and which would affect one in 10 young people. The warning comes from the XXIV National Congress of the Italian Society of Neuro-Psycho- Pharmacology (Sinpf), opened today in Milan and Venice.
"Psychiatric drugs, together with a 360-degree therapeutic path - psychiatrists say - are essential for treating mental illnesses even in young and very young people. Many pathologies treated in time in young people guarantee them a future. If these drugs are used instead done incorrectly can have negative repercussions".
Hence the need, they warn, to launch awareness and information campaigns and educational actions, also with the involvement of the institutions: from schools to doctors, from general practitioners to families.
