It seems that everyone knows the drug Viagra, and its outstanding benefits, but it turns out that there is more to this popular drug than we thought.
A new study reveals that Viagra has been linked to a much lower risk of death in men.

Viagra, or the inhibitor of the enzyme phosphodiesterase 5 (PDE-5i), which is used as a drug that increases erection in men, is also marketed in Israel under the names Sildenafil Teva and Terim.

Since the enzyme is found in all the smooth muscles of the blood vessels in the body, the effect of its inhibition can lead to effects in the entire system that circulates blood, including the heart.
This fact is especially significant in people who suffer from impotence and need Viagra because the risk factors are similar to those of cardiac diseases, such as excess blood lipids, smoking, hypertension and diabetes.

Now, a huge study, published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine, reveals that not only does Viagra not increase the risk of heart disease, it even significantly reduces it.
The new study is based on information collected about 23,000 men who received a prescription for PDE-5i and was compared to information about 46,000 men who did not receive a prescription for the drug.
The men who received a prescription for the drug had a 29 percent lower risk of dying from a cardiac event, a 13 percent lower risk of experiencing a cardiac event such as a heart attack or stroke, and a 25 percent lower risk of dying from any cause.
Moreover, the higher the dose of Viagra, the lower the risk of heart disease.
The results are sensational because they mean not only that the drug is not harmful to the heart and blood vessels, but even probably protects against these diseases.

However, it should be noted that the published study was conducted by the pharmaceutical company Sanofi, which itself markets a similar drug, and therefore the publication raises questions.
Is it possible that men who choose to take Viagra are actually the healthier ones?
Or maybe doctors were afraid to prescribe the drug in patients with underlying cardiac diseases?
Among the experts there are differences of opinion.
Some believe that although there is bias in the research and therefore there is a need for a clinical trial in which men are randomly assigned to one of two groups (one takes the drug and the other takes a placebo), the groups are balanced among themselves in terms of the characteristics of the participants in order to prove the benefits of the drug in reducing cardiac events.
Other experts claim that the research is reliable despite the commercial involvement.
