One of the lines of investigation being followed by authorities into the machete attack in Spain is that of a possible terrorist attack.
This was reported by judicial sources to the news agencies Efe and Europa Press.
Sources in the Spanish Interior Ministry have indicated that more than one are injured, although the number has not been specified.
The newspapers El País and El Mundo report a total of four injured.
The man armed with a machete who was the protagonist of several attacks in Algeciras (Spain) entered both the church of San Isidro, whose parish priest was injured, and that of Nuestra Señora de La Palma: the deceased person was the sacristan of this second church.
This was reported by sources of the Ministry of the Interior.
Raúl Ocaña, a witness interviewed by Cadena Ser radio, said that the attacker had first visited the church of San Isidro before the attack.
"He had already been here around 6.30 pm, he uttered insults, and the woman in charge of taking care of the chapel asked him to leave," said Ocaña, head of a local religious congregation.
"Then he came back, after we had started Mass, with a machete and attacked the parish priest," he added.
Ocaña added that he did not know the attacker nor had he ever seen him before today
