The Lower Saxony police are investigating a homicide that a 14-year-old is said to have committed on a boy of the same age.
Investigators confirmed they found the body of the boy who was reported missing.
According to the information, the suspect had confessed during the search on Wednesday night that he had killed and hidden his friend.
There is currently no information on a possible motive for the crime.
The accused 14-year-old is being investigated for manslaughter.
After the body was found, he was arrested on suspicion of a crime.
He can only be questioned in the presence of his parents.
The teenager who was killed had not returned from a meeting with his friend on Tuesday evening.
His parents reported him missing and a major search operation began in Wunstorf near Hanover.
The body was found on a derelict site near the city on Wednesday afternoon.
According to criminologists, homicides involving very young suspects are not common.
In Braunschweig, however, a 14-year-old has been on trial since the end of December.
Together with a classmate who was 13 at the time, he is said to have insidiously murdered a 15-year-old girl from Salzgitter.
