The two victims of the deadly attack on a regional train from Kiel to Hamburg are a man and a woman.

“One of the victims is female and one is male.

Everything else will follow during the day," said a police spokeswoman in Itzehoe.

The identities of the two dead have also been clarified.

"We'll definitely say something today," said the spokeswoman.

The condition and the severity of the injuries of the remaining victims in the morning was unclear.

It is not yet known whether there has already been an autopsy on the two fatalities.

Both would have had severe stab wounds that led to death, said the police spokeswoman.

The criminal police were able to secure the stabbing weapon of the perpetrator.

She did not give any details.

On Wednesday afternoon, a 33-year-old stateless Palestinian is said to have stabbed several train passengers while traveling.

Two people died, seven were injured according to initial findings.

The alleged perpetrator, who was overpowered by witnesses, was also injured.

According to the information, around 120 people were sitting in the regional train between Kiel and Hamburg at the time of the fatal knife attack.

According to SPIEGEL information, the alleged perpetrator is Ibrahim A. The 33-year-old from Gaza entered Germany in December 2014.

He was granted subsidiary protection in July 2016, but proceedings to withdraw this title have been initiated.

Most recently, A. lived in the Kiel area.

Ibrahim A. is known to the police.

He has been charged with at least 12 criminal offenses, including at least twice dangerous bodily harm, sexual assault, bank card abuse and threats.

He had been released from custody six days before the attack on the train.

In the early afternoon, Schleswig-Holstein's Minister of the Interior, Sabine Sütterlin-Waack (CDU), and the head of the Itzehoe Police Department, Frank Matthiesen, want to comment on the status of the investigation at a press conference in Kiel.
