Since it's still gray in gray outside, something to really scare would be perfect.
Five books that won't make you shiver.

Horror books give you goosebumps
© IMAGO/Stephanie
It's still cloudy and gray outside, which is why most people prefer to spend their free time at home on the sofa.
But why should you get goosebumps from the cold when you can get that with a good book.
Stephen King "The Game"
As you know, I'm a big Stephen King fan, but even I found this book a little too scary.
If you like being kept awake at night by noises or if you spend the night alone in a holiday home, you should better not read this book.
I wish everyone else a scary-beautiful reading pleasure.
Gerald and Jessie Burlingame have retired to their lonely summer house.
Gerald wants to liven up the monotonous married life and ties his wife to the bed.
Jessie doesn't think much of her husband's new games and kicks him - with fatal consequences for him.
Handcuffed to the bed, Jessie begins an agonizing nightmare: at night she receives a creepy visitor...

MF Hakket "Shiobi's Suitcase"
Japanese horror – we know from films like The Ring that the Japanese are very good at horror.
Even if the author MF Hakket comes from Germany, his novel "Shiobi's suitcase" is very close to this kind of horror.
If you want to have a really mystical shudder, this is the place for you.
Tim didn't think it was a hidden camera prank or an illusion until this girl with the huge suitcase appeared in the door.
As she sat down next to him, he began to have doubts.
When they were harassed by the two rockers, he felt queasy.
And when the first blood rained, he almost went insane.
Tim had to accept that the girl Shiori would never leave his side - and that he and she shared a tragic bond.
The next two days were to become a grotesque nightmare of anger and insane brutality for the unlikely team...

James Herbert "Rats"
This book is definitely not for the reader who can't stand rats.
Since I personally count the horror film "Ben" among my favorites, James Herbert's "Rats" is also one of my favorites.
However, the book should not be underestimated.
Be careful if it rustles.
Suddenly, black rats appear in London, posing a deadly threat to humans: mutations caused by fallout and atomic bomb tests.
Anyone bitten by the rats must die...

John Sinclair - Paperback Novels
John Sinclair is well known to some and is more for the faint-hearted reader on this list.
Which doesn't mean the short stories aren't chilling.
As a kid, I secretly read them under the covers, which wasn't always a good idea.
Still, John Sinclair novel books should not be missing from this list.
I can recommend them especially as audio books on Audible.

John Saul "Woe If They Return"
"A book that you should definitely not read at night - and certainly not alone..." This statement on the spine of the book should be taken seriously.
One of the scariest novels I've read.
Next to Stephen King, John Saul is one of the most widely read horror book authors.
My favorite book by him is "Im Bane des Bösen" (promotional link).
If you don't know John Saul yet, you should catch up - it's worth it.
Elizabeth is possessed by the soul of a girl who was murdered 100 years ago.
She cruelly kills children on her behalf...
