Green light from the State-Regions Conference for the new National Oncology Plan 2023-2027.

The regulatory proposal is still underway, as part of the milleproroghe decree, for the financing of the Plan equal to 20 million for the years 2023 and 2024.

Oncologists, the new plan is good but guaranteeing adequate resources "Satisfaction with the approval by the State-Regions Conference of the expected new national cancer plan 2023-27, which includes a crucial part dedicated to the rehabilitation and reintegration, including employment, of cured or chronic patients".

This was stated to ANSA by the president of the Italian Association of Medical Oncology (Aiom), Saverio Cinieri: "Now however we expect - he underlines - adequate funding, and the 20 million proposed in the context of the milleproroghe decree represent a first starting point that needs to be implemented".

The goal of full rehabilitation of patients and their social and work reintegration, says the president Aiom, "was strongly desired and supported also by patient associations and starts from the fact that there is a constant increase in cancer patients who are able to heal today or to make the disease chronic thanks to the progress of research. Therefore, reintegration into work is fundamental".

The new Oncology Plan, continues Cinieri, "is an important starting point for strengthening various activities. We have been grappling with a cancer pandemic for years and we must be ready to manage it, even if the number of recovered patients increases. This is why we ask to be equipped of more capacious structures and to review the organic plans of the oncology departments to manage the new diagnoses".
