The death of a spouse can throw survivors into financial difficulties.

The education pension can help in 2023 – how high it is.

Update from January 26, 2023:

Did you know?

When pensioners come into a nursing home, certain assets are protected - what may be in the account.

First report from January 14, 2023:

Hamburg – Single parents are often dependent on the maintenance of their former partner.

If this dies suddenly, the parent bringing up the child can get into financial difficulties.

The education pension can prevent this - it is considered to be an aid for divorced people with children.

Pensioner:

A person who is no longer or mostly no longer employed and earns his living from a pension

Pension:

Statutory or private insurance benefit

Demarcation of private individuals:

Living off their savings

Demarcation pensioner:

Receive a pension instead of a pension, i.e. a mostly state pension benefit that is not based on previously paid contributions, but on service-related pension entitlements

Educational pension: Help for divorced people with children

A lot will change for retirees in 2023.

The pension was increased significantly in some cases.

There are also a number of grants that can be used to increase your pension.

This should also concern people who want to apply for an education pension.

The child-raising pension can be applied for by single parents after the former spouse has died.

In most cases, the maintenance payments for joint children then fall away – financial hardship threatens.

The application for child-raising pension should be made as soon as possible after the death of the ex-spouse.

The child-raising pension is one of the pensions due to death.

The amount paid from the child-raising pension is intended to replace the maintenance of the deceased former partner and thus enable the child to be brought up.

The widow's pension works in a similar way: however, the surviving dependents must still have been married to the deceased.

Unlike the widow's pension, "the child-raising pension is paid from the insurance of the survivor," writes the German pension insurance.

The maintenance received in the last year before the death must amount to at least 25 percent of the standard social welfare requirement applicable at the place of residence.

How much is the education pension for survivors?

In addition to the death of the former spouse, other conditions must also be met in order to receive the child-raising pension.

The surviving dependent must have paid contributions to the statutory pension insurance for five years.

In addition, the deceased spouse must not have remarried after the divorce.

The marriage must also have been divorced after June 30, 1977.

In addition, the child-raising pension can only be drawn up to the child's 18th birthday.

Unlike child benefit – upon application, this is also available up to the age of 18.

These are the requirements for the child-raising pension:

  • Former spouse passed away

  • Waiting period of five years for the survivor's pension insurance

  • Marriage Divorced after June 30, 1977

  • Survivor remained unmarried

  • No new registered civil partnership entered into

  • Raising one's own child or child of the deceased spouse up to the age of 18

Like the regular old-age pension, the child-raising pension must also be applied for at the pension insurance agency.

Child-raising pension can be drawn from previous life partners if the registered partnership has been annulled by a court.

Anyone who receives additional income in addition to the child-raising pension must allow 40 percent of this to be offset against the pension above the exemption amount.

An exception to this is the time of the quarter of death.

The amount of the child-raising pension corresponds to the pension due to a full reduction in earning capacity.

Before one's 65th birthday, it is reduced by a deduction.
