Five former police officers have been charged with murder following the death of Tire Nichols.
That emerges from documents of the county jail in Memphis.
Accordingly, the five officers are in custody.
They are charged with second-degree murder, aggravated assault, aggravated kidnapping, administrative misconduct and administrative repression.
Second-degree murder is a Class A felony under Tennessee law, punishable by 15 to 60 years in prison.
Nichols, a 29-year-old family man, died in a hospital on January 10, three days after he was caught by a traffic stop and said to have been brutally beaten by the five police officers, all African Americans.
The police officers were then fired.
