It's Yahoo!, the famous digital brand, the most "imitated" brand by hackers in the last quarter of 2022, from October to December.
Used for phishing campaigns, bogus emails that attempt to trick users, Yahoo accounts for 20% of all illicit email activity perpetrated by cybercriminals.
Numbers that come from the new report by the security company Check Point Research, entitled "Brand Phishing Report".
The most widespread campaigns are those that advertise an alleged prize of thousands of dollars, signed by Yahoo, even if to transfer the money it is required to send some personal information and bank account details.
Dhl occupies the second position in the standings, with 16% of the total.
The previous quarter was first.
Here, the mail messages concern the request for data to collect a package, often stopped at customs or for non-existent checks.
In third position is Microsoft, with 11%.
In this case, the messages range from opening files sent by colleagues or from one's boss to the request to click on a button to join a group on Microsoft Teams, one of the most used platforms for chats and video chats, especially for work purposes.
Omer Dembinsky, Data Group Manager at Check Point Software, said: “We are seeing hackers trying to lure their targets by offering bounties and large sums of money. Remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it almost always is. You can protect yourself from a brand phishing attack by avoiding clicking on suspicious links or attachments and always checking the address of the site, the page you are directed to. Look for spelling errors and do not voluntarily provide unnecessary information".
