Oumy Bruni Garrel recognized herself through the character she plays in
Neneh Superstar
.
Released in theaters on January 25, the film, directed by Ramzi Ben Sliman, traces the fate of a 12-year-old girl who redoubles her efforts to enter the ballet school of the Paris Opera.
Because of her skin color, the dancer stands out among the other students.
The adopted daughter of Louis Garrel and Valeria Bruni, originally from Senegal, thus made the parallel with her own story: she who also dances and who was confronted with racism all her childhood.

“It was horrible but true”
“I had the impression that it was me, she explained to Anne-Elisabeth Lemoine and Patrick Cohen on the set of the show “C à vous”, Thursday January 26.
Of course we have lots of differences but at the same time we look a lot alike, because both of us dance, and we have problems because of our skin color.
And to continue: “It's horrible to say that we have problems because of our skin color … but it's true.
For example me in my dance school, I am the only black one.
Like in the movie.
Oumy Bruni Garrel notably explained how difficult it had been for her to explain her adoption to her classmates, confronting her more with her difference.
“Already, I come from a family where both my parents are white so I received a lot of questions, like: 'But why are you black?', 'They are not your real parents'.
So yes I felt that and I said to myself: “I want to be white” or “Why am I black?”, she confided.

During the promotion of the film, Louis Garrel, in a relationship with Laetitia Casta, had also gone to some confidences about his daughter.
Activist, the latter embodied in the feature film a little girl “poorly looked at” at the police station.
“She happens to be a little girl that I know very well.
It's my daughter, Oumy.
And we did the movie so live that I let her improvise in that scene.
In fact, she wrote it,” he said.
The budding actress had thus known how to blend into the role, already proving her talents as an actress.
