Residents are said to have pulled through the state initial reception facility in Freiburg armed with iron bars and attacked each other with knives and other objects: After the serious riots in the refugee accommodation, the state sent eleven residents who had become conspicuous to other facilities.

This was announced by the responsible regional council, police and public prosecutor's office after a crisis meeting in Freiburg.

The security staff was increased in the state initial reception facility (LEA).

The police are also more strongly represented on the spot than before.

Even before the clashes on Tuesday, there had been serious riots in the facility, which is home to around 750 people, on Sunday and Monday.

"We condemn these excesses in the strongest possible terms"

A 28-year-old is being held in what is known as an accelerated trial – other suspects have been released from police custody.

"We condemn these excesses in the strongest possible terms," said a joint statement by the regional council, the police and the public prosecutor's office.

The safety of residents and staff must be guaranteed.

"Together we will use every opportunity to prevent violence from the outset."

There are a maximum of 1200 places in the Freiburg facility.

According to the regional council, the people come from around 30 countries, in particular from Afghanistan, Turkey, Syria, Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia.

District President Bärbel Schäfer explained that she was in contact with the Ministry of Justice in order to achieve faster repatriation of delinquent foreigners and faster asylum procedures.

The Baden-Württemberg Minister of Justice Marion Gentges (CDU) said in an interview with the "Stuttgarter Zeitung" that one must be able to "easily deport those who threaten the security of our country and serious criminals".

The regional council wants to control the entrance to the Freiburg facility more closely and make it difficult for unauthorized persons to access it by means of modifications.

There should also be more activities for residents - including sports, crafts and language courses.

Thanks to the transfers, there should be "a more balanced composition of the residents," the statement said.

This means, for example, that more families are admitted.
