Guarantor, transfer Cospito to a suitable facility. New garrison for the 100th day of hunger strike

Alfredo Cospito's transfer to a facility capable of guaranteeing immediate medical intervention is urgently needed.

The National Guarantor for people deprived of their national freedom, Mauro Palma, asks for it.

"In recent months, the National Guarantor has closely followed the story of Alfredo Cospito, who has been on hunger strike since 20 October 2022, including by making two visits. He has done so continuously and constantly, however avoiding taking public positions, if not to provide information on Cospito's health conditions and on his concerns for a progressively deteriorating situation. Today, also following news of an aggravation of his health,

in the event of acute situations, the risk, moreover, is high given the strong stress to which your body has been subjected for months". The

, underlining that "the Sassari prison, in fact, does not have an internal clinical center and in the neighboring area there are no health facilities capable of ensuring any urgent interventions with due safety".

"The National Guarantor - explains a note - recalls that the protection of the health of those who are in the availability of the State, as deprived of personal freedom, is the responsibility of the Administration that has him in charge and believes that a transfer of Alfredo Cospito is not more postponeable" and "also hopes - in full respect of the institutions that are dealing with the matter - that a solution will be quickly reached that will allow an end to the hunger strike that has now been going on uninterrupted for a hundred days".

The hearing in the Supreme Court has been brought forward to 7 March,

which will address the appeal presented by the defender of Alfredo Cospito against the decision of the Surveillance Court of Rome which rejected a complaint against the application of the harsh prison imposed on him for four years .

This was announced by the defense lawyer Flavio Rossi Albertini who had filed a request, linked to the prisoner's health conditions, after the Supreme judges had set the hearing for 20 April.
