(ANSA) - ROME, JAN 27 - "Once again innocent people are being killed en masse in Europe. Russia, unable to conquer Ukraine, has decided to destroy it. We see it every day, even while we are here. And therefore it is difficult to be here today ".
On the 78th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau by the Red Army, the director of the Nazi concentration camp memorial, Piotr Mateusz Andrzej Cywinski, remembered the horrors of yesterday's and today's war in a ceremony to which, for the first time, they were not invited the Russian representatives.
A group of survivors, with striped kerchiefs around their necks recalling the uniforms of the internees, listened to Cywinsky who didn't mince words: "The districts of Wola, Zamojszczyzna, Oradour, Lidice now bear different names: Bucha, Irpin, Hostomel, Mariupol and Donietsk. Similar sick megalomania, similar lust for power. And almost identical myths of exceptionality, of greatness, of primacy... but written in Russian".
