(ANSA) - PAVIA, JAN 27 - The parents of Andy Rocchelli, the 30-year-old photojournalist killed in 2014 in Donbass while he was reporting on the suffering of the population during the war, are turning to the International Criminal Court in The Hague to launch an investigation into the case.
The news was reported today by the newspaper 'La Provincia Pavese'.
Vitaly Markiv, a soldier of the Ukrainian National Guard, was tried for the killing of Rocchelli (Andrej Mironov, a Russian journalist, died with him, both hit by mortar shells), sentenced to 24 years in the first instance and then acquitted on appeal and in the Supreme Court.
"Ours is an unresolved question of truth and justice - underlines Elisa Signori, Andy's mother, in a speech published on the Article 21 website and taken up by 'La Provincia Pavese' - for a crime that the Italian judiciary defines as a war crime, but on which it lies The goal we set ourselves is to put an end to impunity for this crime, aware that we are thus defending the lives of civilians and journalists who operate in crisis and war scenarios".
