(ANSA) - JERUSALEM, JAN 27 - Israel launched airstrikes on the Gaza Strip in the evening in response to rocket attacks from the Palestinian enclave.
This was communicated by the Israeli armed forces in the aftermath of the raid in the West Bank which caused 10 deaths.
"The Israel Defense Forces are currently striking in the Gaza Strip," reads an army statement.
According to Hamas security sources there were 15 attacks, no casualties.
Meanwhile, Islamic Jihad has claimed responsibility for last night's rocket fire from Gaza towards Israel.
Its spokesman Tareka-Salmi said in a statement quoted by the media that he was a "warning" intended for Israel to clarify that the armed factions in Gaza are closely following developments in the West Bank and Jerusalem.
"The people of Jenin and Jerusalem know they can rely on a steady sword," he said.
According to media reports, Islamic Jihad launched seven rockets yesterday, four of which were intercepted by the Israeli Iron Dome defense batteries located in defense of the city of Ashkelon.
The others fell into open areas.
