(ANSA) - NEW YORK, JAN 27 - Protests have broken out in numerous US cities following the release of videos of the killing of Tire Nichols by five police officers in Memphis.
In New York, dozens of people gathered in Times Square: according to media reports, the police arrived on the spot and there were clashes with demonstrators, which ended with some arrests.
A video that went viral on social media shows a protester climbing onto the hood of a police car and kicking out the windshield before the officers intervened.
In Memphis, protesters blocked the Interstate 55 bridge that crosses the Mississippi River and leads to Arkansas.
In Washington, numerous protesters gathered in Lafayette Park, near Black Lives Matter Plaza, and on K Street, while in Boston they marched along Tremont Street, creating problems for city traffic.
Protests are also reported in Sacramento, San Francisco, Atlanta, Asheville, Philadelphia, Providence and Dallas.
