Mirafiori is getting older, the age of its workers is getting higher and higher.

Over the next seven years, 70% of the bodywork workers will retire.

The alarm is sounded by Fiom which is asking for permanent jobs to give the Stellantis plant a future.

"Four years ago there were 15,459 employees at Mirafiori, at the end of 2022 there were 11,336, 26.7% less. Over the next seven years, 70% of the 3,178 workers in the body shop will retire. To give the factory a future, you need to hire people, not of temporary workers but young people with permanent contracts", said Edi Lazzi, general secretary of Fiom Torino, who spoke about the prospects of the Stellantis plant in a press conference also attended by the delegates of the Turin plant where today almost all former employees of the Maserati of Grugliasco.

"In 2022 at Mirafiori - said Lazzi - 88 thousand cars were produced, an increase compared to the previous year, but a sharp decline if the comparison is made with 2006 when they were 218 thousand. It is possible that in 2024 the threshold will be exceeded of 100,000 units, but if you really want to relaunch the car industry in Turin, you need to completely rethink Mirafiori. To relaunch the plant, you need to have new productions and make stable hires".

Lazzi added that "half of Mirafiori is empty. There is a million and a half square meters deserted. New production is needed, which will bring the number of cars produced each year back to 200,000".

Concern the delegates

.

"In the factory there is silence among the workers. Today we work on two molds, while once we worked up to seven. And the silence is also that of the company towards us: there is a lack of personnel, but they are not hiring", says Beppe Vallarelli of the presses.

"At the Central Institutions we underwent the slimming treatment of the costs" adds Rita Riva.
